Asian Americans are typically dubbed as the "model minority" in American society. Their history from the 1800s to the present is so often glossed over that many Americans, including Asian Americans, are unaware of the triumphs, defeats, and experiences that the Asian Americans before us endured. I chose this topic with the goal of shedding some light on the history of Asian Americans for other students whose education system lacks exploration of Asian involvement in America. This topic, after all, was not included on the list of possible topics for this project while other minorities such as African Americans, Hispanic Americans, and Native Americans were. Therefore, I especially hope to teach myself and my classmates the importance of Asian Americans in American history.
"I am an American, not an Asian-American. My rejection of hyphenation has been called race treachery, but it is really a demand that America deliver the promises of its dream to all its citizens equally. "
